Relevance Of Professional Development For Teachers

By Margaret Adams

The main role that the administration and the staff of any learning institution are to make sure that the students can learn. There have been many areas of emphasis that have been considered in ensuring that a student achieves what is intended. However, professional development for teachers is of high relevance since it is only the teacher who can make the student learn.

Most experts are not aware that learning will never be effective if the student is not ready to corporate and learn. The teacher is on the fulcrum of the entire learning process. It is only them who have the ability to ensure that these learners are motivated and enticed into being ready to learn at their will. The teacher will never be able to achieve this if they do not engage in this program.

This mode of enhancing ones professionalism is something that can be done even as you are attending to your daily duties. To begin with, most new teachers resign from this job in less than five years in the profession a study has indicated. This is attributed to the lack of a proper induction. These new educators lack the experience hence it is important that they have a personal mentor to guide in enhancing their skills.

Such an induction gives the teacher some confidence and also additional mastering of the content from their peers who act as their mentors. Additionally, it allows one to get important skills on how to deal with a particular group of students in the institution they have been posted on especially in schools with demanding students.

A poor life back at home or a bad social life will make a student perform badly in their studies a research has indicated, and the results are acceptable by all. However, it should be learned that a teacher who has got the ability to sharpen their teaching methodology and their relationships with students can be able to ensure that a student can overcome what they go through back at home and perform very well.

The curriculum is unanimously accepted as an essential aspect of any learning. However, it normally changes from time to time. If the changes are rampant, the teacher may find it difficult to be aware of the new changes in good time. However, development programs can place staff in a good position to learn about the new changes and how they can be taught promptly.

Making learning enjoyable remains to be the role of the teaching staff. Most colleges for teachers teach less on how education can be made interesting. These programs are good at giving the teachers firsthand information on the newest technology tools of learning and other forms of class integrated tools that help in making learning appreciated by the learners.

The truth of the matter is that the teacher will remain to be the most important aspect of learning in the entire education system. This makes it irrelevant to focus on the curriculum yet those delivering it are not better off. The administration should ensure they have the best teaching staff first.
