This is normally a cable running from the crane holding the driver. The driver will draw air into the cylinder and the diesel fuel gets injected into cylinder. The weight is then dropped on top of a pile using quick release. The weight of the piston compresses the mixture of air and fuel heating it to the ignition point of diesel fuel.
The ignition of the mixture transfers energy of falling weight to the head of the pile, which in turn drives it into the ground. This process is repeated automatically unto the load is driven into the ground to the required level. In the manual versions of this set up, pistons get raised to points where the piston gets released automatically by the trip. The piston therefore falls due to gravity. The fuel pump gets activated by the falling piston to discharge a metered amount of fuel pump.
The moment the pump is triggered it releases a metered quantity of fuel on the ball pan of the impact block. Compression of fuel confined in the cylinder begins when the collapsing piston blocks exhaust ports. The impact block is held firmly against the pile and the driver cap by a pre-load force applied by the compressed air.
Piston will then strike onto the impact block causing atomization of fuel and beginning the weighty piles on a downward movement. The strike of the piston ignites the fuel resulting to an explosion that exerts an even bigger force on the pile that is already moving down. This drives it further downwards into the ground.
